Scents bring feelings and memories. It's wired in our brains: the brain zones dedicated to emotions and scents are very close together! A scented candle can create an ambience filled with warm and cozy feelings, great smooth energy and relaxation. It's another dimension of decor! Thus, the gift of candles is one of feelings and memories. What a better time of the year than the holidays to evoke the spirit of Christmas and long time family and friends memories?! These candles will help set the tone for a fireside conversation, dinner, get-together or just relaxing on your own. Here are some candles with the scents we associate with Christmas holidays. Christmas Decorations...Indoor & Outdoor

Image
It's Christmas time!! And it's time to get a classic Christmas tree! Some of us like them natural, with the typical scent of Christmas...but, for me, it's more practical to get an artificial tree.  Artificial trees can be reused year after year, lowering the overall cost of Christmas celebrations. You can store them away easily and use different ornaments each year for variation, if we want a different look each year. You don't have to water an artificial Christmas tree, you won't have to vacuum the falling needles and the vast majority are flame-retardant.  Also, you won't trigger anybody's allergies and you don't have to worry about mold or bugs in them. If you want to have the scent of Christmas in your home, there are candles that can do the job!  Here are some gorgeous trees. Some are pre-lit, so you don't have to buy separate lights for them.        Outdoor lights have become part of the tradition. They can be simple lights ...

Santa Claus wears a blue suit... really?

Image
The original St Nicholas (Santa Claus) suit was tan or brown ; he was a Bishop of Greek descent that  worked mostly in Turkey. He is regarded as the patron saint of children, merchants, students and others. For the many things he did as one of the earliest Christian saints, including resurrecting three kids that had been pickled in brine, he was called the "wonderworker". He also had the habit of secretly leaving gifts for people. This habit gave rise to the legendary character of Sinterklaas (in the Netherlands and Germany) and St Nicholas, Papa Noel, or Santa Claus in the rest of Europe, where he wears a blue suit . The red suit version is attributed to Thomas Nast, a Bavarian-born American artist, working for Harper's Weekly in the United States. He first depicted Santa in 1863, in sepia colors, but in 1881 he depicted Santa with a red suit for the first time. Nast is now known is regarded the father of American Cartoonists, not only for his Santa depiction, but also...

Customizable Thanksgiving Party Invitation Cards? Yes!

Image
It's that time of the year...the holidays! With Halloween past us, it's time to prepare for Thanksgiving. One of the key things we do is contact and invite friends or relatives we haven't talked to in months or years and send them our best wishes. I have friends, very dear to me, that live far away, and a Thanksgiving card triggers the only time we talk. We receive each other's card, and that brings on a phone call or, if possible, sometimes even a visit. And you probably know how true friends are: it's like we talked yesterday! We all love the personal touch of a paper card. And it gets even more personal when you can get your name (or the recipient's) printed on them. And that's exactly what you get at Zazzle and when they're made by independent artists. I have made several designs for Thanksgiving invitation cards, which I will show you in this post, along with cards made by other artists in Zazzle. Expect to find matching napkins, buttons, sti...

Cushions for Fall Decor..and they're customizable!

Image
If you don't want to change a lot of things in your home each season, one thing you can change to celebrate each season is add a cushion or two! It's easy and the touch is practical and, actually, helps accentuate the theme as it contrasts with the rest of your decor. Whether it's funny, cute, antique, vintage or ultra modern, it will be more so if the rest of the decor is not...The more mainstream style is, of course, also great: matching your new item (cushion or other) with your decor. Either way, we all like to bring the season into our day and cushions and other details help us do that. Today I will show you some cushions from Zazzle, which you can customize to your liking...by adding or deleting those parts of the art that each artist has designed for you to change! Here they are! Hope you like them! This design features classic seamless autumn leaves in the rich colors of fall: red, deep yellows and browns. Like most cushions that will follow, this one is avai...

Fall is my Favorite Season

Image
Most people love spring or..even more common, summer! But I do love autumn! Why? I think it's the season when nature shows off the grand finale of color and light display in all its splendor before erasing everything in winter before it starts again in spring. Don't get me wrong, winter is beautiful...particularly where it snows. The blankets of white and contrasting stark tree bark or the green of spruces and other evergreen trees are all enchanting, but fall is still my favorite! Autumn brings reds, rich browns, orange, gold..it's truly royal! And while Nature does it job outdoors, we bring it into our homes...all spiced up (pun intended) with the smells and tastes of the holidays. Family and friends get closer and the air gets festive and yes, full of food, pumpkin spiced latte (gasp!), hot cocoa and coffee (my favorite!). Here are some ideas for home decor! Some of these are designed by me and posted at my Zazzle shop called Opus Posh and some are made by other...
